“My mojito in the Bodeguita del Medio and my daiquiri in the Floridita”

Floridita, a bar located in Havana, Cuba, is widely credited for inventing the classic frozen daiquiri, and was a favorite of Ernest Hemingway in the 1930s. Trading traditional syrup for grapefruit and cherry essence, the Hemingway Daiquiri was born. A life-size bronze statue of Hemingway adorns the end of the bar to this day.

Spirit Recommendations

Casa Magdalena Blanco - While not the model for sipping straight, Casa Magdalena is a light rum at a decent price point that’s good for mixing. It blends well with the citrus and sweetness of the Hemingway Daiquiri.

Instructions

1. In large shaker, combine 1 oz grapefruit juice, ¾ oz lime juice, ½ oz simple syrup, ¼ oz cherry essence, and 2 oz rum
2. Add large ice cubes (so as to not dilute the cocktail) and shake vigorously for at least 15 seconds
3. Strain into chilled coupe
4. Garnish with maraschino cherry
